Standards

Business appraisals performed without reference to professional standards can be meaningless. CapVal, LLC business valuation professionals subscribe fully to the professional standards of:

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
American Society of Appraisers
The Institute of Business Appraisers
National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts
Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice

Jim Lurie has served on the Standards Committee of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts for several years.

The standards of these organizations require that we perform our work objectively and thoroughly. While we are often employed by one side or another in a litigated situation, we are not advocates, except in support of the opinions which we develop through objective analysis. We expect that our clients want an honest and unbiased opinion, and we know that courts demand objectivity. That’s what we provide in all cases. Sometimes, our opinion is what our client wants to hear; sometimes, it isn’t. In either situation, we always provide support for our findings, highlighting any uncertainties that exist because of missing or contradictory information. Only then can our clients make reasonable conclusions about their own options.

Our full written reports show all of our key calculations in ways that are subject to testing and replication. Each key source of information is identified through extensive use of footnotes. Each appraisal report is designed to stand on its own as a complete document, understandable by our clients and other users of our appraisals without additional explanation.
