Valuation advisory services do not involve the expression of either an opinion of value or an estimate of value pursuant to the standards of either The Institute of Business Appraisers or the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. These services are generally appropriate when considering mergers and acquisitions or other “real-world” situations such as the development of shareholder or partner buy-sell formulas. They are also useful in general strategy planning. We often express our conclusions as a range of reasonable values. The work scope often involves the issuance of a Restricted Use Appraisal Report under the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. This is appropriate in situations where the goal is not a theoretically “right” answer, but instead a workable and economically sound solution to a real issue. We often request that experts from other disciplines become involved to ensure that the contemplated structures provide the greatest total economic and tax benefit, and most importantly, no surprises. Our advisory services are provided on an hourly basis with fees based upon the normal hourly charges of the personnel involved and the time absorbed.
